Barbecue "Somewhere" in Iraq

by Shawn
(South Carolina)

While deployed to “somewhere” in Iraq, we Southerners wanted a little taste of the States (Southern Style). And being in an oil rich country like Iraq, I figured it wouldn’t be too difficult to find some sort of lump coal, or something. Low and behold we found some, and now the task of building a barrel and finding meats.
After several weeks of putting the barrel together, and pleading with Air Crew to bring us something other than MRE's, it happened! The Air Crew brought us a cooler (small) full of meat, and a few other spices. So I made a quzi marinade, which at that point was the best thing I had ever tasted. So needless to say, we gorged ourselves that night, and for a split second, we were home!

Thanks for reading,
