Awin's Asian Ginger Tri-Tip recipe

by Alan Winscott
(Antelope, CA, USA)

2lb Tri-Tip
1 1/2 cup Soy Sauce
1/4 cup Balsamic Vinegar
1/4 to 1/2 cup of Brown Sugar
2 tbsp diced Ginger
1 tbsp diced Garlic
1 tsp Sesame Oil
1/4 cup chopped green onions
1/8 cup Mirin (sweet cooking rice wine)or Sake
1 gallon Freezer bag

In a bowl, thoroughly mix all but the Tri-Tip. Once this is complete, place the Tri-Tip and marinade in the freezer bag. Let it marinate (in the refrigerator) for 24 hours.
Place on grill with high heat. Let the surface of the Tri Tip get a good char (sear) and then remove from the high heat. Reduce the heat to low and cook the Tri-Tip for 40-45 minutes.
I love how the flavors pair with the fat of the meat. I have been making this recipe for over 10 years, and it is always the hit of the party.

Note from the "Cookin' Cousins"

To take nothing from Alan's outstanding recipe, and if time is a consideration, we have found you can marinate 1.5 to 2.5 lbs.(675 to 1,150g) of tri-tip for 8-12 hours for excellent results.

Never reuse or reapply the marinade (huge bacteria problem).
Respectfully, Bob 'n Jack
